I managed to install a stock HD Sportster muffler on my bike and am happy with the sound (got it free from the local HD dealer – said they just throw them out). Also removed the white spacer which completely eliminated the burping and occasional backfire. Everything else is stock (jets, airbox). All seems to be well – but – I’m concerned about the engine long term. Anyone else have a similar set-up and/or can comment? Is the backpressure of the HD muffler similar enough to stock so I don’t have to worry? I plan to inspect the plug next time the tank is off but that won’t be likely until riding season is over. Any comments?
